Helplessness Blues is the follow up album from Fleet Foxes, a folk band from Seattle that has a very distinctive uplifting sound. The group use beautiful 4-piece vocal harmonies along with traditional folk instruments to create euphoric songs with episodes of whimsical melancholy. The album opens with “Montezuma”, a brilliant example of some of their more calming work. This is then followed by “Bedouin Dress”, a much chirpier track showing off the versatility of tempos that can be created by this group. The album follows a similar trend and is the perfect example of contemporary folk rock.
